Conference Title: “ Surf, Ski ‘n’ Scale”
Date: July 22nd & 23rd 2016
Venue: Quality Hotel, Corner Courtenay and Leach Streets, New Plymouth
Conference Theme: “Patient and Practitioner Health “: will focus around the need to approach care for our patients as a whole. The discipline of oral health care is evolving in such a way that we no longer look at the mouth as a small part of the body, but as a window to the bigger picture of overall health, disease, or something between the two. How wonderful it is that medical health practitioners are now embracing the link between oral health and heart disease, diabetes, pregnancy outcomes, and so much more. And what about ourselves, do we care for ourselves as we should or do we just give good advice to our patients and not practice what we preach?
Our speakers for 2016 will help us to view the mouth as the window to systemic disease: the mouth as an indicator of abuse (drugs and alcohol), early detection of oral cancer, the ever increasing problem of dry mouth, particularly from the use of prescription medicines. Of course, let’s not forget our old friend’s periodontology and an update on antibiotic prophylaxis.
